Where am I?
Welcome to my sad attempt of a blog to keep my random thoughts on and chronicling of my development.
In order to keep myself accountable and sorta give myself a recurring deadline I am going to give a monthly update on my projects. Hopefully that will make sure I don't go "ooh shiney" on the next thing that comes around. Also going to use this to just ramble about things since Twitter is completely unusable now, so we going back to primitive blogging, before the brain rot.
Who are you?
My nickname is Groogy, I have over a decade worth of experience working in the games industry, I've worked from indie games to doing R&D for AAA companies. My earliest work that ended up on Steam was Project Temporality but after that I ended up working on Crusader Kings II and Europa Universalis IV and many other projects. I've also worked at Ubisoft utilizing their Cloud-Native Tech.
As of late though I've returned to Paradox Interactive's Grand Strategy Games but as a consultant under my own company, Griffin Gameworks. The name inspired by the Scanian heraldry which is where my roots are. I do miss the shitposting I used to do on the Paradox Plaza forum, so I guess that's what I hope that I can do here, shit posting into the void.
Projects
Currently I have three projects that I find interesting but are in different stages of development because of reasons. Project Profit, Project Storytime & Project Dungeon.
- Project Profit is a strategy game where you play as a Trading Company starting from 1500
- Project Storytime is event driven procedural story telling with D&D 5e mechanics
- Project Dungeon is Storytime but scaled down and more focus on being driven by player action
Project Profit I've put on ice as I am currently working for Paradox Interactive and it felt too close to their Grand Strategy Games for me to feel comfortable continue working on it. Project Storytime's scope kept increasing and I realized I'd be stuck writing events forever not getting anywhere, plus replicating fun combat in a D&D manner alone made the game focus turn towards combat rather than the narrative. So enter Project Dungeon where I am trying to take Text Parser based Interactive Fiction and merge it with Dungeon Crawler games.
